PROSTRATE ENLARGEMENT

The prostate is a small muscular gland underneath the bladder in the male reproductive system, with a chestnut shape. The prostate secrets a milky substance that accounts for 20 to 30 percent of semen; it contains muscles that help to chuck out the semen during ejaculation. When it gets bigger, it can block the flow of urine through the urethra the canal that empties the bladder.

Urologists have also opined that most common prostate problem for men over 50 is prostate enlargement. And according to research by the American Urological Association (AUA), by 60, over one-half of men have BPH; by age 85, the number climbs to 90%.

Urologists posit that with age comes the enlargement of the prostate gland also referred to as Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) which is said to be a consequence of changes in hormonal balance. Urologists are yet to determine the exact cause of BPH; however research has shown that increase in the number of cells (hyperplasia), male hormone also known as androgens, estrogens, and growth factors are varying factors that can account for an enlarged prostate.

If left untreated, it could degenerate into bladder urinary tract or kidney problem; it may also lead to acute urinary retention (the inability to urinate). However, BPH is not prostate cancer neither does it mean that one is at a high risk of prostate cancer. Given the statistics above, it thus become pertinent that the prostate gland is cared for hence the need for Procin-X.
